February 2014 - The greatest gift is Love

feb2014This Valentines we might get a beautiful card filled with rhymes and reasons of why were so special. Or maybe a surprise candlelight dinner, red wine and quality conversation that has been long overdue. For some; an engagement ring will be placed on their finger inviting them to a life-long commitment filled with a happy future. Is this true love?

When we speak of true love most of us refer to human love which is largely determined by the attractiveness of the person who is loveable, sweet personality, great body with sexual appeal. These qualities make it so much easier to love and give ourselves to them. As human beings we operate outside the economy of grace; the grace and mercy of God’s divine love.

Divine love is not determined by the person who is good but because God is good. His love is divine and it operates in an unqualified way, without making distinctions, between persons and without following our personal preferences. Divine love is received by surrender instead of performance or perfection.

When we surrender and give our lives to Jesus we sit in His presence as He fills us to overflowing. We read His word that ignites our hearts to tell others of His great love.  A true love that will cost us something but still loving knowing there is nothing in it for me.

The power of the gospel message is the love message. The two greatest commandments is to love God with all our hearts souls and minds and to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. By this all shall know that you are my disciples.

When we combine human love with divine love it becomes a true love. A love that becomes the highest form of spiritual warfare that will set this world free. No matter what denomination or Christian faith we represent, we are being challenged to represent Christ here on this earth on the foundation and power of love. An action that speaks louder than words!
This Valentines I pray that you will get yourself off your mind and make somebody else happy. It might begin in your home with your spouse. Or maybe you will reach out to someone who needs to know they are loved; an opportunity for them to see Christ in your face, hear His voice through your words and to feel His love through your embrace.

Happy Valentines Day !

February Scripture: 2nd Tim 3:1-4

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—
